About UK Health Insight

UK Health Insight is an independent health information resource for UK readers, covering everyday health, wellbeing, and lifestyle topics in plain, accessible English. We help readers understand common conditions, symptoms, and healthy habits — without jargon, scaremongering, or unfounded claims. If you write clearly, research thoroughly, and care about accuracy, we’d like to hear from you.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome contributions from:

  • Health and medical writers with a background in journalism, communications, or a relevant health field.
  • Healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, and others) who want to share accessible, well-grounded guidance with a general audience.
  • Researchers and academics working in public health, nutrition, psychology, or related fields.
  • Experienced freelance writers with a proven track record of accurate, well-sourced health content.

We do not require a clinical qualification to contribute, but we do require that every claim in your article can be traced back to a credible, checkable source, in line with our Editorial Policy.

Topics We Cover

We’re particularly interested in guest contributions on:

General health & symptoms explainers
Nutrition & healthy eating
Mental health & wellbeing
Chronic condition management
Fitness & physical activity
Sleep & recovery
Preventative health & screening
Healthy ageing
Women’s and men’s health
NHS services & navigating healthcare

If your idea doesn’t fit neatly into the categories above but is still relevant to UK readers’ everyday health, pitch it anyway — we’re open to good ideas outside this list.

Our Editorial Standards

Every article we publish, whether written in-house or contributed, is expected to meet the standards set out in our Editorial Policy. In short, your article should be:

  • Accurate and based on current, reliable information.
  • Well-sourced, citing reputable references such as the NHS, WHO, UK government guidance, peer-reviewed research, or recognised medical and charitable bodies.
  • Original and not published elsewhere, in full or in substantial part.
  • Free of promotional content disguised as editorial — any commercial interest, product mention, or affiliation must be disclosed to us upfront.
  • Written for a general audience, in clear, plain English, avoiding unnecessary jargon.

We do not publish content that provides personalised medical advice, promotes unproven treatments, or contradicts established NHS or WHO guidance without clearly flagging that the claim is disputed or preliminary.

Submission Guidelines

  1. Pitch first. Send us a short outline (2–3 sentences) of your proposed topic and angle before writing the full piece, so we can confirm it’s a fit and isn’t already in our pipeline.
  2. Length. Most articles run 1,000–1,800 words, though we’re flexible depending on the topic.
  3. Formatting. Please write in Google Docs or a similar shareable format, using clear headings and subheadings, and include links to your sources inline.
  4. Sourcing. Provide a source for every factual or statistical claim. We prefer primary sources (NHS, WHO, peer-reviewed studies, government data) over secondary summaries.
  5. Author bio. Include a short bio (1–2 sentences) with your relevant background or credentials, and a link to your professional profile (e.g., LinkedIn or a personal site), so readers can see who’s behind the article.
  6. Images. If you supply images, they must be either your own, properly licensed, or royalty-free with attribution provided where required.

What Happens After You Submit

Our editorial team reviews every submission for accuracy, sourcing, and fit with our Editorial Policy before publication. We may suggest edits, request additional sourcing, or ask clarifying questions. We aim to respond to pitches and submissions within a reasonable timeframe, though response times can vary depending on volume.

What We Don’t Accept

  • Content written primarily to promote a product, service, or company, without clear disclosure.
  • Unattributed or unverifiable health claims.
  • Content generated wholesale by AI tools without meaningful human research, fact-checking, and editing.
  • Previously published or duplicate content.
  • Guest posts submitted purely for backlink purposes with no genuine editorial value to readers.
